“Crime has a new enemy.”

— RoboCop

When I first saw the trailer to this film, I knew I wanted to see it. Coupled with my interest for sci-fi and action, sometimes I just want to see a movie and not have to think too deeply about it. This was one of those flicks. And, let me tell you — it did not disappoint.

Now, this is a remake on a prior film with the same name. For those who are fans of the franchise, it held true to the original story with a few minor adjustments here and there. It even went so far as to include some of the actors in the original film which was an added bonus and treat to watch.

I thought it was kind of neat that they really focused on the style of the old movie with this one (kind of like this film). From the music, to the fonts, to the sound and even the appearance and dress of the characters to reflect the time period this was originally made really paid tribute to the first movie.

As for the movie itself, there was the usual concept of good vs evil. It depicted the other side of capitalism and how greed can corrupt even those who seem to be working for the law. We soon found out those we thought were good had sold their soles in exchange for the money a corporation can buy.

I think Michael Keaton played a very good role as the CEO of OmniCorp. And, on the flip side we see those who try to advance our society for the greater good such as the scientist Dr. Dennett Norton (played by Gary Oldman) only to find out how really corrupt capitalism has become. And of course, we have Pat Novak (played by Samuel L. Jackson) who plays the commentator in all of this depicting the media and its view and influence on society. This was the comedic side of the film and definitely a treat to watch!

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. It paid a nice tribute to the original film making for a nice and entertaining remake.

If you’re in the mood for a sci-fi and action type of movie, I do recommend this one.
