The Words (2012)

When this film first came out, I really wanted to see it. To be honest, the trailer really intrigued me. However, I was not able to see it due to its limited engagement in select cities. So, I was excited when it finally came out on DVD — it was well worth the wait. Let me just start off by saying, this is not your typical kind of movie. There is not much action and it does not follow the regular linear formula of most movies. Though, it does have a good storyline that is very well told. Read more [...]

The Family Man (2000)

With Christmas coming very soon, I decided to write-up a review on another one of my favorite holiday movies. Feeling a bit nostalgic, I decided to watch and write about The Family Man. What makes this movie so interesting is that it explores the present as it is today as well as the present as it could have been all at the same time. It challenges us to ask the question, "What if?" In a sense, it gives us a "glimpse" of what could have happened if we made different decisions in the past through Read more [...]

Savages (2012)

Being that I enjoy Oliver Stone pictures, I decided to check this one out. Lately, I have been on the hunt for good movies to watch from my favorite directors. This film did not disappoint at the end but was a bit slow in the beginning. (Note: A good friend of mine in the film industry once told me that if I enjoy a director's style and types of movies that in general I will probably enjoy their future work. I know this may not be the case all of the time but for me it has been for most of Read more [...]

Lawless (2012)

Recently, I had the chance to see this movie. Unfortunately, I missed it when it first came out. Being that I enjoy historical films, I was really looking forward to this one based on a true story. To say the least, it did not disappoint. The focus of this film was really on the main family, the Bondurant brothers, who ran a successful moonshine business during the days of Prohibition. Their business was very local as they serviced the whole community. Like all good things, there were Read more [...]

Sideways (2004)

(Note: This film is part of my "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" project of film reviews). Since I've been in the mood for a comedy type of movie, I decided to re-visit this film. And, I have to admit - I was a bit apathetic when I first saw the film years ago as it just didn't quite interest me at the time. Though, now that a few years have gone by - I have to say that it was quite entertaining the second time around. But, why? I think this is a very adult type of movie in the Read more [...]

The Matrix (1999)

(Note: This film is part of my "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" project of film reviews). "The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into Read more [...]

Indie Film Review: Lemonade (2009)

"It's not a pink slip. It's a blank page." - Lemonade Recently, I just finished watching this film submitted to me by indie filmmaker and director Erik Proulx. I took an interest in his film, "Lemonade", when the trailer was submitted here. From the trailer alone, it definitely caught my eye - I knew it would be a movie with an important message. I was definitely right. This movie came out in a time of dispair and uncertainty - the financial crisis of the late 2000s. Sure, we Read more [...]

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

"A fire will rise." - The Dark Knight Rises From the very moment I heard about this film, it was definitely one I wanted to see. Being the last installment of Christopher Nolan's "Batman" trilogy, I was really looking forward to it's closure. And, I must say - it did not disappoint. Before going into the movie, I did read a few reviews on the film which were mixed - some liked it while others did not. The criticisms it received were mostly being that the film focused mainly Read more [...]

Prometheus (2012)

"The search for our beginning could lead to our end." - Prometheus When I first saw the trailer to this movie, I instantly knew it would be an interesting one to watch. Though I waited a bit to see it (due to the overwhelming crowds), it was definitely worth the trip. The film, based on the Alien franchise, is not just a movie about aliens. It's about the origins of where we (as a human race) came from. In a sense it asks the question, "Who were our creators and why Read more [...]

Seeking Justice (2011)

"There's always a catch." - Seeking Justice In my search for a movie to watch, I stumbled upon this one. Though I had not taken the time to see the trailer, the description sounded interesting and I also read some reviews which were pretty decent. So, I decided to check it out. Going into the movie, it started out pretty good - it had lots of action and a good storyline. Being a Nicholas Cage flick, I was looking forward to an action type of film. Though, that's where it all stops. I'm Read more [...]
