The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

Since I was in the mood for a drama and thriller type film, I decided to check this one out. Going into it, I had no idea what this movie was about — I based my decision mostly on the poster cover as well as the cast. And, let me just say — I made a good decision. From the very opening, I knew this was going to interest me. Let’s just say, this is not your typical type of movie. It has a very unique storyline with interesting characters. Though, it’s not for everyone — it’s a very dark Read more [...]

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

Since I was in the mood for a political type thriller, I decided to check this one out. And, I have to admit — it really did not interest me the first time I saw the trailer. Though, I was intrigued that it was up for so many Oscar nominations including Best Picture for 2012. And, guess what? It did not disappoint. Before I go into the film, I will say this is one for those who enjoy political type thrillers and have somewhat of an interest in politics. If you’re not very keen on these kinds Read more [...]

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

“What is hidden in snow. Comes forth in the thaw.” – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Over the holidays, I was able to check this film out based on the book. And, let me just say – it was definitely worth it. Going into the movie, I already knew the storyline as I had seen the original Swedish film. Here is a shot of the film poster which looks pretty cool: (Note: The translation on the poster reads “Men Who Hate Women” – a main theme in the film). With that being said, Read more [...]

The Ides of March (2011)

From time to time, I get into a political thriller type of mood. And, let me just say – this was one of those times. So, I decided to check this film out. Now, I’ll be honest – this is not my typical type of film. Though, since the mood struck me – I went into the film wanting to watch it. For those who may not be political thriller type of film buffs, this may not be the film for you. With that being said, I will say – I did enjoy the movie. Though, some reviewers thought the film to be Read more [...]

Brokedown Palace (1999)

(Note: Every now and then, I enjoy watching films from the 90s. So, I’ve decided to start this new series “I Love the 90s” to highlight some of the films during that era. Enjoy!) “They were young, fearless, and friends forever. Until a stranger came between them.” – Brokedown Palace From time to time, I get kind of nostalgic about certain time periods in history. And, I can honestly say without hesitation – the 90s is one of those time periods. I guess the types of films I enjoy Read more [...]

Limitless (2011)

“I was blind but now I see.” – Limitless When I first saw the trailer to this film, it caught my eye – it looked pretty entertaining. So, I decided to check it out. I’m glad I did. I have to admit, the beginning did start out a bit slow. To be honest, I felt the credits kind of took awhile (just like how it was back in the old days). Though, once the movie finally got started – things started to get interesting. And, by interesting – I mean in a weird but good way. (Note: For Read more [...]

Beyond A Reasonable Doubt (2009)

After I saw this movie, I suddenly got into a Michael Douglas and thriller type of mood. So, I decided to check this film out. I’m glad I did. Though this movie is fairly recent, I felt an air of nostalgia throughout the film. To be honest, it really felt like an outdated kind of movie – something you would see as a television special 10 years ago or so. Though, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Now, the movie starts out a bit kind of slow – it really sets the scene, the overall mood, Read more [...]

Disclosure (1994)

Since I was in the mood for a thriller type of movie, I decided to check out this film. It was just what I needed, it did not disappoint. I enjoy seeing Michael Douglas on the big screen – he has done some great performances and has had many outstanding roles (such as in this movie). And, Demi Moore’s performance was exceptional as the antagonist in this film based on the Michael Crighton novel. Now, I have to warn you – things are a bit outdated in the movie. It’s kind of entertaining to watch older Read more [...]

The Town (2010)

When I first saw the trailer for the movie, it really caught my eye. So, I decided to go and check it out. Going into the film, I was really hoping this would be an interesting movie – one with a good story. Though, the story had a neat concept – I was very disappointed. Why? To say the least, this movie really dragged in parts. And, it just wasn’t the film alone – the dialogue along with the acting was not so great (in my opinion). (Note: To be honest, I’m not much of a Ben Affleck fan. For the Read more [...]

Righteous Kill (2008)

“Most people respect the badge. Everybody respects the gun.”- Righteous Kill Since I’m a fan of both Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, this movie was definitely one I looked forward to seeing. It was a real treat to see both of them side by side together in this film. This movie is really one that can take you on a wild goose chase – it’s really a “who done it” type of movie. Basically, the film is about a serial killer who goes around town killing those who kill others and do wrong. (Note: It’s interesting Read more [...]
