Interstellar (2014)

“Mankind was born on earth. It was never meant to die here.” — Interstellar When I first saw the trailer to this film, I knew I had to see it. Though, I really limited my knowledge about it — I went in cold not reading any reviews or information. I’m glad I did. Before I go into the review, I’ll admit I have not always been a sci-fi buff (even as a child). However, as the years have gone by and more films have come out in the genre my interest has peaked and sparked my curiosity. Read more [...]

RoboCop (2014)

“Crime has a new enemy.” — RoboCop When I first saw the trailer to this film, I knew I wanted to see it. Coupled with my interest for sci-fi and action, sometimes I just want to see a movie and not have to think too deeply about it. This was one of those flicks. And, let me tell you — it did not disappoint. Now, this is a remake on a prior film with the same name. For those who are fans of the franchise, it held true to the original story with a few minor adjustments here and there. Read more [...]

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

When I first saw the trailer to this film, I knew I had to see it. Being a Martin Scorsese fan, I had the utmost confidence it would not disappoint. And, guess what? I was right. (Note: It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a Scorsese flick — the last one I saw was this film.) At first glance, this movie is not typical of Scorsese. Now some folks may not like it. In all honesty, when I first saw the trailer I was a bit unsure of the style of the film. Though, it looked fun so I thought I’d Read more [...]

The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)

Since I was in the mood for a drama and thriller type film, I decided to check this one out. Going into it, I had no idea what this movie was about — I based my decision mostly on the poster cover as well as the cast. And, let me just say — I made a good decision. From the very opening, I knew this was going to interest me. Let’s just say, this is not your typical type of movie. It has a very unique storyline with interesting characters. Though, it’s not for everyone — it’s a very dark Read more [...]

50/50 (2011)

Being that I was in a comedy type of mood, I decided to check this film out. From the trailer, I knew there were some serious moments but also could give me a few laughs. And, guess what? I was right. I will admit, when I first saw the trailer I knew this was a movie I’d have to wait until I was in the mood to see. It seemed more of those types of films you can enjoy when the mood catches you just at the right time — I’m definitely glad I waited. To be completely honest, this film Read more [...]

Les Misérables (2012)

“Fight. Dream. Hope. Love” — Les Misérables From time to time, I do enjoy a good musical every now and then. Unfortunately, many of the musicals that have been turned into films in the past have not really made much of an impression on me such as this one. Though, I decided to check this film out since I’m a fan of the musical. And let me just say, it did not disappoint. Before I go into the review, I will say — musicals that are turned into films are more for those who enjoy Read more [...]

Celeste and Jesse Forever (2012)

Every now and then, I get in the mood to see a fun and quirky romantic comedy. So, this time around I accidentally stumbled upon this one — I’m glad I did. At its heart, this movie is about regrets and letting go of the past and moving on to the future. Let’s face it — we’ve all done things that we’ve regretted. And, in doing so — we wish we could change the past thus altering the future. But, we can’t. And, learning how to deal with the choices (and perhaps the mistakes) we have Read more [...]

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)

Being I was in the mood for a period piece, I accidentally stumbled upon this one. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about it but also a little curious. So, I decided to check it out — I’m glad I did. Apart from an all-star cast (including Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson), this film had a great storyline depicting the way families rose to power in the Middle Ages. It showed how they would do almost anything to preserve money and power in the family despite the costs. (Note: If Read more [...]

Life of Pi (2012)

“The journey of a lifetime.” — Life of Pi On my quest to see a unique kind of movie, I stumbled upon this one based on the book. And, let me tell you — I was pleasantly surprised. At its heart, this film is about imagination and our ability to explain the unexplained. In the movie, we are faced with a story, so wild and so beyond imagination that we wonder if the story is true. Consequently, we automatically question the validity of the story and learn of another story which Read more [...]

The Words (2012)

When this film first came out, I really wanted to see it. To be honest, the trailer really intrigued me. However, I was not able to see it due to its limited engagement in select cities. So, I was excited when it finally came out on DVD — it was well worth the wait. Let me just start off by saying, this is not your typical kind of movie. There is not much action and it does not follow the regular linear formula of most movies. Though, it does have a good storyline that is very well told. Read more [...]
